The United States has seen a significant rise in product recalls, hitting a five-year peak last year with approximately 3,300 items flagged across various industries, including automotive, consumer products, and pharmaceuticals, as per a recent report. Laundry Detergent Safety Concern
Procter & Gamble has issued a recall for 8.2 million Tide Pods laundry detergent bags as of April 5 due to a defect that could cause the bags to split open, posing serious risks if ingested or if contents contact skin or eyes. The Consumer Product Safety Commission’s announcement details the recall of several brands including Tide Pods, Gain Flings, and Ariel Pods produced between September and February. Consumers are advised to contact the company for a refund and a new child-resistant storage bag.
Increased Risk from Fabric Steamers
An expansion of a previous recall from November 2022 has seen an additional 1.6 million Black+Decker fabric steamers recalled on April 4 after 82 reported burn incidents, seven of which were severe. These products were reportedly spewing hot water from the nozzle. Customers should contact Empower Brands for a refund. A similar issue led to the recall of 2 million handheld fabric steamers by brands such as Vornado and Sharper Image in February.
Starbucks Mug Recall
Nestlé USA has recalled over 440,000 Starbucks-branded mugs due to potential burns and cuts from overheating or breaking when microwaved or used with hot liquids. Sold during the 2023 holiday season, these mugs were available in various gift sets. Affected customers are advised to return the mugs for a refund.
Trader Joe’s Cashew Recall
Trader Joe’s “50% Less Sodium Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews” have been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination, announced by Wenders LLC. No illnesses have been reported, but consumers in 16 states where these nuts were sold should return them for a refund.
Power Adapter Recall by Yamaha
Yamaha Corp. of America is recalling over 34,000 PA-10 AC power adapters due to a risk of electric shock or electrocution from exposed wiring. Ground Cinnamon Lead Contamination Warning
